Bed Bug Treatment Preparation Checklist

BEDROOMS 

#1 All bedding materials (sheets, blankets and pillows) should be removed and sealed in a plastic bag until it can be laundered. 

#2 All cloth items (bedding, pillows, clothing, curtains, etc.) should be placed in the dryer on high heat for at least 30 minutes. 

#3 Furniture (dressers, nightstands, under the bed) should be emptied and cleaned. Items should be inspected and placed in a plastic bag. 

OTHER ROOMS 

#1 Upholstered furniture will need to be inspected; pillows and throw blankets should be removed and placed in the dryer on high heat for 30 minutes. 

#2 Furniture should be moved away from the walls to allow access. 

#3 Electronics should be unplugged to allow for treatment of the outlets. 

#4 Vacuum under cushions and crevices of furniture. o Vacuum floors especially well along baseboards. #5 Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately/wash the canister with hot soapy water and flush the water immediately. 

DURING/AFTER SERVICE 

#1 People and pets should be out of the residence for a period of 2-4hrs after treatment. You should extend this time if you have increased respiratory or other sensitivity. 

#2 Review the bed bug fact sheet for tips to prevent re-infestation. 

These steps are an important part of bed bug treatments and should be followed prior to each service. Bed bugs are extremely difficult to control, so be patient with this process. 

DO NOT attempt to treat the infestation on your own. Applying over the counter pesticides can interfere with the process of the pest control operator and lead to over-exposure to pesticides.
