The German cockroach is the most common and difficult species to control in Georgia. These small, light brown roaches reproduce rapidly, with a single female producing hundreds of offspring in her lifetime. They prefer warm, humid environments and are often found in:

German cockroaches thrive in places with easy access to food, water, and shelter. They are highly resistant to many pesticides, making professional treatment necessary.

Known as the “palmetto bug,” this large reddish-brown roach is commonly found in basements, crawl spaces, and commercial buildings. While they prefer outdoor environments, they will enter homes in search of food and moisture.

Often confused with the American cockroach, this species is slightly smaller and darker in color. They thrive in humid areas like attics, crawl spaces, and wall voids.

Also known as “water bugs,” these shiny black roaches are typically found in damp basements, sewers, and drain systems.

German Cockroach Treatment Prep List 

KITCHEN 

Remove dishes, food and other items from cabinets and cover them with a sheet or towel. o Vacuum any particles or small debris from cabinets. 

Sweep/vacuum under the stove and refrigerator and any other appliances. 

Thoroughly clean all surfaces using a bleach solution. 

Check under sinks for leaks and notify management if observed. 

FOOD PANTRY 

Remove all food and other items and cover them with a sheet or towel. 

Vacuum any particles or small debris from shelves and floor. 

Wipe all surfaces with a bleach solution. 

BATHROOM 

Remove items from inside bathroom vanities and any closets inside bathrooms and cover them with a sheet or towel. 

Vacuum any particles or small debris from shelves and floor. 

Thoroughly clean all surfaces using a bleach solution. 

Check under sinks for leaks and notify management if observed. 

DURING/AFTER SERVICE 

Remove pet dishes and water bowls.  

Cover fish tanks with a damp towel and turn off the pump. 

People and pets should be out of the residence for a period of 2-4hrs after treatment. You should extend this time if you have increased respiratory or other sensitivity.

BEDROOMS

Remove everything out of the nightstands and pull everything away from the wall one foot. Have no cloths, children's toys or dog toys on the floor.

These steps are an important part of German cockroach treatments and should be followed prior to each service. German cockroaches are extremely difficult to control, so be patient with this process. 

DO NOT attempt to treat the infestation on your own. Applying  over the counter pesticides can interfere with the process of the pest control operator and lead to over-exposure to pesticides.
